Let’s face it; many of us are very good at keeping things we don’t necessarily need. Sometimes, people store these things in the attic, and sometimes they leave them lying around and filling the cupboards.

While it is easy to store things, it can be harder to part with them. So, we thought we’d take a closer look at some of the steps you can take to declutter your own home.

  1. Everything in its place

For any items that you use frequently, there needs to be a place to store them. If you don’t have one or don’t use it, then cups, books, and other items will quickly pile up where they aren’t wanted.

So, don’t hesitate to go around and put everything back in its proper place. If it doesn’t have one, then create a space where it will be tidy and easy to find again.

  1. Donate to help others

If you have a wardrobe full of clothes you never intend to wear again, then consider donating them to a charity.

Many things you no longer want could be just what someone else needs. Plus, it helps people who cannot afford to buy new things.

Go through your house, and anything you no longer need can be donated. This would then leave you free to purchase some new, and slightly more unusual home accessories

  1. One room at a time

For your existing unusual home accessories, try to ensure you concentrate on one room at a time. This will stop you from feeling overwhelmed and stopping before you finish.

Allow time to do each room, and then rest before the next one. You don’t need to do the whole house in one day.

  1. Upkeep is important

Once you have completed your decluttering process, you need to ensure it doesn't get to the same level of messiness again.

To do this, make sure to check one room a day and declutter if anything needs to be done. This will help you keep on top of it without taking too much time.

  1. Pass the message on

If you have others in your household, you should let them know what you are planning, so they can remove anything they don’t want to be decluttered.

You can then tell them that they need to ensure their space, such as their bedroom, is also clutter-free.

In summary, decluttering might seem like a huge task, but it doesn’t have to be! If you take your time and do small amounts each day, you will quickly find that it makes a world of difference.
